POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 09, 2023) – Julie Nataas and her Randy Meyer Racing (RMR) Oslo Tapet & Gulvelegg (OTG) team may have already won the Lucas Oil NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster world championship, but a win at this weekend’s In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip would mark another item off their wish list.
Nataas and the OTG dragster as well as RMR have yet to pick up a victory at the famed Los Angeles County racetrack. Nataas finished runner-up at the NHRA Finals in 2023 after starting race day from the No. 3 spot. She also claimed the No. 1 qualifying position in 2019. At last year’s event Nataas qualified No. 2 but had a first-round exit to end her season.
“Pomona is my favorite racetrack on the circuit. This is the first NHRA racetrack I visited when I was a kid. My dad raced a couple races here, this is where I realized I could be a race car driver for a living and California was home for a while too. So there’s a lot of memories here,” Nataas said. “Randy (Meyer) told me in Texas after winning the championship that he has one more goal to accomplish this year: win Pomona. It’s one of the two racetracks he’s never won at. We have been in final rounds here, but never been able to seal the deal. It would be amazing to end the season on a high before we go celebrate the world championship at the NHRA Awards on Monday. My dad and my brother are both here this weekend together with several friends who will celebrate with us.”
Nataas’ world championship season consisted of first winning the North Central Regional champions with wins at Gainesville Raceway in Florida, the Texas Motorplex, Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio and Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, Kansas. National event wins at Gainesville Raceway, zMAX Dragway in North Carolina and a fairytale weekend at the Texas NHRA FallNationals where she won the JEGs Allstars, claimed the No. 1 qualifying position, clinched the championship and ended the weekend with the event win.
Nataas and her OTG RMR Top Alcohol Dragster team will being their quest for a first time win at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip with qualifying passes Friday at 2 and 5:05 p.m. Eliminations will begin Saturday with round one at 11 a.m. and round two at 5:05 p.m. and continue Sunday with semi-finals at 12:40 and finals at 3:10 p.m.
